Get familiar with the platform

Welcome to our TEI lexicons edition interface. This tool was originally developed by Lo Congrès to edit its own dictionaries, but it can be used by anyone wanting to publish lexicons following Lo Congrès recommendations about how to use TEI P5 standard of XML to format lexicons. If you want to learn more about the technical aspects of these recommendations, you can read Lo Congrès guidelines about its use of TEI P5 standard.

According to your permissions on the lexicons you're working on, this interface will display some or all of the following menus:

  • Lexicons: here, you can create new lexicons or edit details about existing lexicons. You need special permissions to perform these actions.
  • Entries: here, you can list all the entries from one or many lexicons, edit them, delete them or create new ones according to your permissions.
  • Patterns: here, you can create patterns of elements and subelements. You then import these "skeletons" to save time when creating or editing an entry.
  • Models: here, you can create models of prefilled elements (and their prefilled children) you need to be homogeneous in your lexicon. You can insert them in your entry and, when generating the overview, they will be replaced by their content.
  • Lists: here, you can see some lists used by Lo Congrès standard and comment them. You can also create special lists for your lexicons (like geographical areas) which can be reused in some elements of the entries.

Each one of these sections has its own help category.

A lexicon entry contains many lexical elements (forms, grammatical details, translations, subentries, etymological details, etc.). All of them are described in the "elements" section of this help. You can use the keyword search to find which elements may correspond to the information you want to add in an entry (for instance, you can type "synonym" to answer your question: "Which element do I use if I want to indicate synonyms of the head word?").

You can access to the keyword search by clicking on the Search icon at the top of the help menu frame.

This interface is meant to allow team work by the use of many functionalities. You can discover them in the "working together" section of this help.

Basic functionalities as connection-disconnection and the meaning of every icon on this platform are explained in the "First steps" section of this help.

Finally, you can find some detailed explanations about Lo Congrès recommendations on TEI P5 (how to choose between two elements, two field values, how languages are managed, etc.) in the "Specific points" help section.

Good work!
